When I consider Scripture I like to put myself in the story and begin to imagine what is happening and what people are experiencing. Sometimes I like to change roles when there are a number of people described in the story. I like to put all of my senses to work in my imagining. When I do this the Scriptures give me new life and understanding. Below I give you an example. First, a scripture that hopefully will allow your senses and understanding to come alive with awe and wonder. Read the scripture and then put it in the background of your mind as you slowly and contemplatively read the next part.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; Jn 1:1-4
Imagine for a moment that you are watching a scene open up. You are not in the scene yet, but you are about to enter it. Imagine it is the beginning. God has been at work. God has created the light. God has created the land to divide the powerful yet soothing waters. He has created every kind of colorful and beautiful plant and every kind of fruit tree that bears fruit. God has created the day and the night. God has created an abundance of living creatures that swim the sea, that walk and crawl across the land as well as the birds that fly though the air. The world is lush with beauty as only God can create. But now the big moment. It is now the sixth day. God creates man, you!

Is it awe and wonder? Is that first experience one of tremendous exhilaration throughout your whole being? Are your senses alive with indescribable aromas, colors, sounds? What are you sensing?
What one word could you possibly use to describe these experiences? LOVE! God’s love poured out for you and into you! How in God’s incredible world do you truly take this all in?
God created mankind in his image; in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and God said to them: Be fertile and multiple, fill the earth and subdue it. Gen 1:27-28a
God poured his love into man to share. Above all that is our call in this world, receive God’s love and to share his love with everyone else.
In our world today it may seem difficult but when we put things in perspective, thinking back to the Beginning we can appreciate more all that God has given us in love, unconditional love. His unconditional love is proven because he also gave us free will. He gave us the ability to receive his love and choose to be in relationship with him. Finding God in our lives is up to us.
As a loving parent he has laid out the spiritual laws that lead us in relationship to him, and to eternal joy. We can be the rebellious child who wants to be in control and violate the rules of the relationship or we can accept the real source of love, God. The beauty of God’s love is that when we freely share his love with others the more we are capable of receiving his abundant love and understanding.
Every engagement with others is a new beginning and an opportunity to open the door wider to receive and to give away. Cast away the doubts of the evil one and open your heart to the God who loves you unconditionally. He so loves you and wants a loving relationship with you. Know that you are worth it, and shine like the Son.
